The function of a cutting torch is to mix oxygen and acetylene in proportion, form a preheating flame, and spray high-pressure pure oxygen onto the workpiece being cut, causing the metal to burn in the oxygen jet. The oxygen jet blows away the slag (oxide) generated by the combustion to form a cutting seam. A cutting torch is the main tool for gas cutting workpieces.

Cutting torches are divided into two types based on the mixing method of oxygen and acetylene in the preheating flame: jet suction and isobaric. Among them, jet suction cutting torches are the most commonly used. Cutting torches are divided into ordinary cutting torches, heavy-duty cutting torches, and dual-purpose welding and cutting torches according to their purposes.

Cutting torch and welding torch are important tools for gas welders. Improper use may cause flame discharge, backfire, combustion, and explosion accidents. Therefore, the following precautions should be taken during use:

1. According to the size of the welding nozzle of the welding torch and cutting torch, provide pressure and gas volume of oxygen and acetylene.

2. The nozzle and metal plate cannot touch each other.

3. Pay attention to checking whether the gasket and valves in each link are leaking air.

When the nozzle is blocked and a needle is used to poke it, the nozzle should be removed and cleared from the inside out.

Before use, the air inside the rubber tube should be expelled, and then the oxygen and acetylene valves should be opened separately. Only after they are unobstructed can ignition and welding be carried out.

6. All parts of the welding torch and cutting torch must not be contaminated with grease.

7. The nozzle heat of welding and cutting torches should not be too high. If it is too high, it needs to be cooled with water.

When igniting, the acetylene valve should be opened first, and then the oxygen valve should be opened after ignition. Its purpose is to release acetylene air mixture for ignition and checking if acetylene is unobstructed.

If there is any leakage in acetylene and oxygen valves, they should be repaired in a timely manner.

10. Do not lay the nozzle of a burning cutting or welding torch on the workpiece or ground.

11. When leaving the workplace, it is prohibited to place lit welding or cutting torches on the operating table.

When handing over the shift or stopping welding and cutting, the valves of the oxygen and tempering preventer should be closed.

13. Rubber tubes should be used exclusively and marked for distinction. Acetylene tubes and oxygen tubes cannot be swapped for use.

When the rubber tube is found to be frozen, it should be thawed with warm water or hot steam. It is forbidden to use fire for baking, and oxygen is not allowed to blow the acetylene pipeline.

15. Rubber tubes for oxygen and acetylene should not be placed randomly, and the tube mouth should not be pressed against the ground to avoid being filled with soil and impurities, which may cause blockage.
