Introduction to Personal Protective Measures for Welding Operations

The personal protective measures for welding operations mainly include head, face, eyes, ears, respiratory tract, hands, body and other aspects of personal protection. Mainly includes dust prevention, gas prevention, noise prevention, high temperature radiation prevention, radiation prevention, mechanical injury prevention, and dirt prevention, etc. In addition to wearing general protective equipment such as work clothes, gloves, glasses, masks, etc., for welding operations, air respirators (used for welding operations in closed containers and special workplaces where ventilation is difficult to solve) can also be worn to prevent smoke and dust hazards. For emergency repair and welding operations in highly toxic areas, isolated oxygen respirators can be worn to prevent the occurrence of acute occupational poisoning accidents. To protect the welder's eyes from arc damage, a mask with special protective lenses must be used during welding, and different types of filter lenses should be selected according to the intensity of the welding current. At the same time, the welder's visual acuity and the brightness of the welding environment should also be considered. To prevent the skin of welders from being damaged by electric arcs, welders should wear light or white canvas work clothes. At the same time, the cuffs of work clothes should be tightly tied, the collar should be fastened, and the skin should not be exposed. For welding auxiliary workers and other workers near the welding site who are injured by arc light, attention should be paid to mutual cooperation during work, and auxiliary workers should wear filters of moderate color depth. When engaging in welding operations in multi person or cross work areas, protective measures should be taken, such as setting up protective shields, to prevent electric arc light from injuring the eyes of welders and other workers. In addition, after coming into contact with thorium tungsten rods, hands should be washed with running water and soap, and attention should be paid to regularly cleaning work clothes and gloves. Wearing soundproof earmuffs or earplugs to protect against noise hazards are effective personal protective measures.
